Express Entry: IRCC invites 700 candidates in surprise all-program draw

IRCC has invited 700 candidates in the latest Express Entry draw, with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 511. This comes as Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plans to invite 1,500 healthcare workers and 1,500 STEM professionals in the first-ever category-based selection Express Entry draw. The minimum CRS score for healthcare and STEM candidates remains unknown. The current CRS score of 511 is the highest in any all-program draw of 2023, and is 35 points higher than the 476 required in the previous draw.

Category-based draws

Category-based selection draws are a new Express Entry method that selects candidates based on specific occupational fields or attributes. These draws were made possible by changes to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act in June 2022, allowing immigration ministers to invite economic immigrants based on economic priorities or French language proficiency.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is an IRCC application management system that selects permanent residency candidates based on their Comprehensive Ranking System score. The system evaluates attributes like work experience, occupation, language ability, education, and age. Highest scores receive invitations to apply. Express Entry manages three programs: Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades, and Canadian Experience Class.
